Real Nappies has joined forces with Waitakere Hospital to change their on-ward policy permanently to cloth nappies.
Following a trial in 2008, Waitakere Hospital have now named 'Real Nappies' as the brand they will be using in the Maternity Wards. Waitakere have stood by their name as an 'eco city' with support from The Foundation, Waitakere Council and Waitakere Hospital and on Tuesday 3rd Feb 2009 made the official announcment that 'Real Nappies' will be offered as a permanant feature to all babies born in Waitakere Hospital.
During the 2008 3 month trial aprox 20,000 disposable nappies were prevented from going to landfill and with Waitakere Hospital now moving to 'Real Nappies' permanently an estimated 80,000 disposable nappies will not end up in landfill sites.
Similar systems are to follow with the support of other DHB's and Councils around NZ.
